Situated at the heart of Adelaide’s CBD, Aurora Restaurant is part of Light ADL, a not-for-profit organisation, of which all revenue from its restaurant is funnelled straight to supporting SA’s arts industry.
Their menu, curated by Head Chef Sam Cooper and Executive Chef Brendan Wessels, explores a seasonal selection of cuisine-types, whilst showcasing Chef Brendan’s South African heritage.
Enjoy a lazy lunch on Friday’s and Saturday’s, or settle in for the evening with their dinner menu, Wednesday’s through to Saturday’s.
Aurora Restaurant brings light to sustainability, fresh local produce, and social responsibility through its ethical offerings and decadent dishes.
It’s no secret that South Australia is home to some of the world’s best food and wine.
It’s what first attracted Oval Hotel Executive Chef Daniel Simpson to the boutique hotel at Adelaide Oval and its flagship dining offering, Five Regions Restaurant.
“I was drawn to Oval Hotel because of a shared passion for South Australian produce, which is universally regarded as some of the best in the world,” Daniel says.
“I had been seeking out South Australian ingredients in interstate venues for years, so to go straight to the source was a dream. And that was before I saw the view from the restaurant – that sealed the deal.”
Daniel is referring to the sweeping views enjoyed by every guest in the intimate Five Regions dining room.
Floor to ceiling windows frame views into the iconic Adelaide Oval, from hallowed turf and heritage scoreboard to soaring grandstands and Moreton Bay Fig trees.
This vantage is exclusive to restaurant guests, while those staying in one of Oval Hotel’s guest rooms enjoy views of the surrounding parklands and St Peter’s Cathedral.
“It’s a truly unique property, and one that continues to attract guests from interstate and around the world based on location alone,” Daniel says.
“As an extension of that location, our approach to food and wine at Oval Hotel is to present guests with the true taste of South Australia. Five Regions embodies that.”
Five Regions Restaurant offers seasonal degustation dining that is inspired by South Australia’s five major wine regions – the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley and Coonawarra – with a new winery invited to collaborate on the menu every three months.
The restaurant has produced menus in partnership with Seppeltsfield, Shaw + Smith, Jim Barry Wines and Maxwell to name a few.
“Our approach is always wine first – we taste, we select, and we listen to the stories and secrets behind the winemaking before we even think about food,” Daniel says.
“It’s a concept that allows us to share the stories of, and ethos behind, some of the biggest and most exciting names in South Australian wine.
“As part of the process, we visit the winery to hear more of their story, walk through their region and taste their wines”
“It conjures immediate inspiration and allows us to really transport our guests to these destinations through the menu”
“Guests who have travelled from interstate or overseas may not be familiar with the winery or region we are sharing during their visit, but Five Regions gives them a taste from right here in the CBD, at Adelaide’s most iconic location.”
And with a new menu every three months, the concept continues to reinvent itself.
“Guests who have joined us for a Barossa menu paired with Yalumba wines in winter will come back for a new experience with a new winery in spring and summer,” Daniel says.
“We have some huge names coming up – I can’t wait.”
